?!

Sometimes I look back through my sketchbook and just start to wonder what's wrong with me. I know my drawings are pretty tame compared to a lot of cartoonists, but the thing is that I don't intentionally sit down to draw weird stuff. It just seems to come out, so I guess what's the use of fighting it. It's more fun to draw weird mutated sweaty people than boring still lifes anyway (did plenty of that in school).
This looks like one of those pages done on an energy drink buzz. I really need to lay off of those, I'm afraid my heart is just going to turn into maple syrup soon.
Lacking inspiration I flipped through a book of nothing but images of devils and started doing my takes on some of them (left side). I really like the one with the trunk and feathery eye thingies at the top of the left page.

Thanks to everyone that came to the art show at Kettle, and especially to those awesome folks that bought my art! I sold about half of my work, so that rocks. I wish I could say that the money will go to good use, but in reality it will be used to feed my insatiable toy and book habit. It's worse than drugs.

Just let it flow. That's what I say. Standouts for me include the chap with the suspenders in your first spread, man with face coming out his side, too. Nice looking devils as well.

Thanks guys! Both of you are top notch artists so your compliments truly are meaningful to me. Bob, I find that the more I "just let it flow" the more fun I have, I just have to loosen up and start doodling.

Your sketchbook pages are amazing. I wish I had that kind of energy pouring out on paper.

I don't think there's anything wrong with you, Dave. I wish more people let their subconscious minds drift in doodle-land like you do. I'd rather look at your weird doodles than some boring, sad, Bob Ross-inspired landscape still-life any day! Keep feeding your inspiration...and your energy drink/toy habits.

I often feel the way you do, so it's nice to hear it put into words. Oh, and I thought you'd like this blog:

It's great inspiration for those of us who like weirdness. I dig that feathery devil, too. He'll spook me in my dreams tonight...

Thanks Steve! Your art is mind blowingly awesome so a compliment from you is really great to hear!

Hey Justin ole' buddy! Thanks man, I guess there's really nothing wrong with letting the weirdness take over and seeing what happens, it's really the most fun way of working. Thanks for the link also, some really great stuff there.
