The Happy Bullets

I was recently asked by the awesome local comic book writer David Hopkins to collaborate with him on a comic book project with the equally awesome local indie band The Happy Bullets. We're creating an "illustrated companion pamphlet" for their upcoming album "Hydropanic at the Natatorium". Above is the wrap-around cover for the book, inside will be 6 pages of comics written by Mr. Hopkins and drawn by yours truly. The comics are all based on the bands song lyrics, so it will be completely different from anything I've done before. The book will be available in April to coincide with the release of the album, which from what I've heard so far is AWESOME! I'm hoping this will allow me a healthy dose of "indie cred", which seemed to be important when I was in college.

What a fun project. You must have had a blast with this.

This is such a great piece. I love the helicopter bicycle, I want one of those things! For some reason the guys bobbing in the water make me laugh, probably because they aren't in a panic, they're just floating as if everything is normal. I think the people on the beds have it the best...at least they could take a nap until help arrives.

Outstanding sir.

Thanks dudes!

I have to say the bicycle copter thing was the most fun part to draw, I enjoy weird contraptions and such.

Jason, glad you picked up on the subtle joke of the people acting perfectly fine while in the water. I thought it would be funnier and give the image an odd vibe if they all just didn't think much of the situation.

Thanks a bunch Chris! Whenever I'm allowed to I'll post the rest of the pages, but it might be a while :)
